THE TORONTO STAR | Here are some of the players appearing at the hearing into Toronto’s short-term rental rules

The Local Planning Appeal Tribunal that decides land use matters in the province has set aside six days of hearings to consider the City of Toronto’s short-term rental regulations approved by city council more than a year ago.

David Wachsmuth, the assistant professor at McGill University’s school of urban planning is appearing as an expert for Fairbnb Canada. Wachsmuth has done extensive research into the impact of Airbnb on Canada’s housing market. It shows that the majority of Airbnb-generated revenue is going to rental operators letting multiple units and that short-term rentals are taking an alarming number of permanent homes out of Canadian cities.
