Published: 22 July 2003

McGill Principal Heather Munroe-Blum this morning welcomed the Quebec government's endorsement of the new health centre known as the Glen Project, saying that in addition to ensuring Quebecers receive the highest quality of health care available, the facility will be critical to providing the best education and training for physicians and other health care professionals. "We're keen to work with the Quebec government to realize the greatest possible return on its investments for the people of Quebec in terms of patient care, research productivity and the application of new knowledge," said Principal Munroe-Blum.

"We want to attract and retain outstanding teachers and researchers and ensure that excellence in patient care is matched by excellence in the classroom and in the lab," she stressed. "Furthermore, the Glen Project will include a full-fledged pediatric mission, which is important to our Faculty of Medicine, and it will house what is now Canada's largest hospital-based research institute."

"The announcement is wonderful news - the University is ready to go and we're happy to work within the parameters set out yesterday by Minister Couillard," concluded Principal Munroe-Blum.
