Use the Infinity Reservation System to book a microscope

Note that any reservations made in the old system will be monitored and deleted accordingly.

How to use Infinity

A - If you already have a McGill account, login by clicking the blue "sso" icon, as shown below:

  • If you are already logged into McGill, no password is required
  • If not, the McGill login window will pop up and you enter your McGill credentials.

External Users who are already clients of the Microscopy Facility

  • Use the email you have used to deal with the Facility in the past
  • Type in the following password: Test@123
  • Go to your user profile and create your own password

External Users who have never used any McGill core
Click “Register”, create password


B - The software should be fairly intuitive. However, if you need more assistance, please follow the steps below:

Upon logging in, you arrive at the Dashboard
Click on the far right top icon to view/edit your profile, view your reservations or want to see the status of your access request.

Two ways to book a microscope.
You will automatically have access to microscopes you already have been using in the past.


C - In “Timeline” (default view), you can see all instruments.

  • You can customize the view to show your favourite instruments only.
  • Click on the magnifying glass to choose which instruments you want to add to the view.

D - Click on the time slot you want to reserve
  • The “Create Reservation Window” will pop up.
  • Note: only fields marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory

  1. Select start and end time
  2. Select your lab
  3. Select your session type (usually “unsupervised”)

E - Don’t see your fund number?

Don’t see your fund number?

  • Select the fund/PO number you want to use
  • Note: you can split charges between funds
  • If you have no idea what fund your PI is using, please ask your PI and input as below (it will be saved for your lab).

Add your fund number

  • This number will be saved to your PI’s lab account and will pop up as an option for any future reservation
  • You are not required to name the fund number, but you have that option if you would like to. The fund can be named, for example, “NSERC”.

F - New user of the facility

If you are a new user of the facility, you won’t have access to any instruments. Alternatively, if you are a current user of one instrument and want to request access to another instrument you will need to click “Request Access” to that particular microscope, fill out the form, and wait for an email with instructions to schedule a training session.


How to access the mobile app version of Infinity X

  • The options on the mobile app are more limited. You will be able to reserve an instrument you already have access to.
  • For new instrument access you will need to do it on the web based version on your computer.
A - You can find the mobile on your respective app stores under: IE InfinityX

On your first login, you will need to enter our university’s passcode: MCGILL-P

B - Once you are in, you will find a variation of the Dashboard
  • You can click on the left panel extension to see the menu.
  • You will be able to reserve an instrument by clicking on the instruments tab.
