Objectives

 Goals and objectives of Obstetric Medicine Rotation:

By the end of this 4-week rotation, trainees are expected to:

1.     Develop an appreciation for maternal adaptation to the physiologic changes of pregnancy in various disease states

2.     Understand basic pharmacology as it relates to pregnancy, including knowledge of medications that are safe in pregnancy, and medications that are contraindicated in pregnancy

3.    Develop an approach to common medical problems in pregnancy including hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, thyroid disease, diabetes, venous thromboembolism, anemias, thrombocytopenia as well as when to recognize serious complications in pregnancy (AFLP, IHCP, severe preeclampsia or eclampsia)

4.     Develop an approach to common symptoms in pregnancy such as dyspnea, palpitations, edema

5.     Develop an approach to pre-conception counseling for women at high risk of complications during pregnancy

6.     Establish a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care involving general obstetrics, maternal feta medicine specialists, and other medical specialists
