Montreal is now the world’s 3rd largest centre of aerospace manufacturing and is the only area in the world where an entire aircraft can be assembled from locally manufactured components. Aerospace is Quebec’s leading export industry (over $15B in annual shipments).
It has five OEMS, 15 senior partners who are either equipment manufacturers or maintenance, repair and overhaul companies. With an additional 185 suppliers, the Montréal aerospace cluster is known around the world.
One of the unique features of the Montreal Aerospace Industry is that, in contrast to the other centers, it does not depend on only one industry, but also on world-class original equipment manufacturers, each in a different field of activities: All are part of the Montreal cluster, as well as a large number of medium and small companies (over 200 in total), account for over 36 000 jobs.
Some of the major companies having their headquarters or a large presence otherwise, include:
- Air Canada
- Bombardier
- Airbus
- CAE
- Rolls-Royce
- Lockheed Martin
- International Air Transport Association (IATA)
- International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)
