On April 3, 2013, the Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law launched three  new books and  a new resource website.

During a well-attended reception held in the Common Room, Professor Yaëll Emerich, interim director of the Centre, presented the books and a new database, and took the opportunity to warmly thank the many writers, editors, supporters and colleagues who participated in their preparation.

Private Law Dictionary and Bilingual Lexicons – Property / Dictionnaire de droit privé et lexiques bilingues – Les biens

This dictionary, available in French and English, offers definitions and comments relating to the field of civil law property and includes a French-English lexicon. It is an essential tool for Quebec jurists,  legal translators, for Canadian jurists with an interest in Quebec civil law and, for jurists specializing in comparative law.

These two volumes are dedicated to the memory of Professor Paul-André Crépeau, founder of the Research Centre that now bears his name.

Waters’ Law of Trusts in Canada, 4th edition

This comprehensive edition examines the law of trusts in all jurisdictions of Canada, including the nature of trusts under common law and civil law, and some international jurisdictions such as the United States, where Canadian trust law is increasingly relevant in estate planning. The book offers insight into the creation and administration of express trusts; trust termination; conflict of laws, including the Hague Convention on the Recognition of Trusts; the variety of uses to which the trust is applied; and the law concerning remedial trusts (for example, resulting and constructive trusts), especially in matrimonial law.

Archives of the Civil Code Revision Office of Quebec Database

With the help of the McGill Library, the archive of the Civil Code Revision Office of Quebec (CCRO)  were digitized and indexed into an online database. This database now offers access to this archive – including working papers, reports, correspondence, minutes from meetings, etc. –  dating mostly between 1966 and 1979.

These materials were donated to McGill by the President of the CCRO, Professor Paul-André Crépeau. The McGill CCRO holdings are composed of more than 4,000 documents, stored in over 300 volumes, and representing approximately 40,000 pages. This monumental database will be fundamental to research in legal history and in the codification of the Quebec civil code.

The archives of the Civil Code Revision Office of Quebec can be accessed directly at: http://digital.library.mcgill.ca/ccro/index.php
