The year 2019 marks the 30th anniversary of the United Nations' Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). This is an opportunity to take a look back on the last decades and assess the situation on children's rights accross the globe.

Organised by the IBCR and McGill University's Faculty of Law, this conference will gather internationally renowned experts in the field of children's rights and with the exceptional participation of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Violence Against Children, Ms. Najat Maalla M'Jid.

The panel will review the progress made since the creation of the CRC 30 years ago and discuss current matters and situations to assess the achievements and challenges still pending regarding children's rights worldwide, such as:

  • The UN mandate to fight violence against children
  • Justice for children
  • Lessons learned from the refugee crisis in Europe
  • The intersection between violence against children and child participation: policies and practice
