Keynote Speaker - Svein M. Fikke

Information for Keynote Presentation

Svein M. Fikke from Norway will be our distinguished keynote lecturer on the opening day. The title of his presentation will be “Meteorology and weather-exposed infrastructure”. This will mainly be based on Chapter 7 “Overhead Lines and Weather” in the CIGRE Green Book (Springer, 2017. Editor: Konstantin Papailiou), with the help of colleagues for updated information.

 

Short Biography - Svein M. Fikke

Svein M. Fikke has a M.Sc. in meteorology from the University of Oslo in Norway. His professional career has been related to extreme weather impacts on infrastructure such as oil platforms, TV masts and towers, and electrical overhead lines, especially in mountainous and complex terrain. He has been responsible for advising on ice and wind loadings on electrical overhead lines in Norway for 40 years, the last years within the Norwegian TSO Statnett until retirement in 2001. In recent years he continued as a private consultant, serving utilities both within Norway as well as in many other countries where similar challenges frequently occur. He has been the Norwegian member of CIGRÉ Scientific Committee B2 and served as convenor of several working groups. Fikke received the CIGRÉ Technical Committee Award in 2002 and has authored numerous papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings. He received the Masoud Farzaneh Award in 2013.
