Indigenous Language Reclamation and Revitalization Lab
The Indigenous Language Reclamation and Revitalization Lab is a developing research hub within the Faculty of Arts Institute for Indigenous Research and Knowledges (FAIIRK). The Lab is intended to support Indigenous students, faculty, and community members engaged in Indigenous language reclamation and revitalization.
The Lab will bring together research, pedagogy, and community-based work related to Indigenous languages, including documentation and learning. Planning for programming and space is currently underway.
Rimer Family Gift
In November 2021, McGill announced a $13-million gift from Gerald Rimer, BCom ’56, and his sons, Daniel, David, and Neil Rimer, to support the renovation of the Leacock Building and the creation of the Faculty of Arts Institute for Indigenous Research and Knowledges.
This gift supports the creation of the Institute, including plans for the Indigenous Language Reclamation and Revitalization Lab, as well as language labs, training, on-site knowledge keepers, and events and symposia.
