Grads Connect
Thursday, August 25th
9:00AM - 2:30PM
Grads Connect (GX) is Graduate Orientation's biggest event, attended by hundreds of graduate students each year!
GX is Orientation’s social/networking event to help new graduate students meet, connect, and have some fun as they learn more about the area and some of the resources and hidden gems around the downtown campus. Attendees will take part in fun team-based activities, explore the Downtown campus and surrounding area, and compete against other teams in the "Amazing Race" for a chance to win a free dinner!
Each team will be guided through the day's events by a pair of Facilitators—returning graduate students, who are on hand to point out important locations, share information, and answer your questions.
Snacks, lunch, and a reusable water bottle are provided.
Please note: GX is an outdoor, off-campus activity. While the activities are not strenuous, there will be a lot of walking as you tour the downtown area. Please be sure to wear comfortable, weather appropriate clothing and footwear.
GX Schedule
9am: Check in at Mont Royal Park next to McGill Athletics & Recreation, which is a 10-15 minute walk from the downtown campus. Receive your reusable water bottle, snacks, etc., and meet your team members and Facilitators.
9 – 11am: Get to know each other and enjoy some fun warm-up activities in the park.
11am-12pm: Break for a pizza lunch with your team.
12-2:15pm: Compete with your team in the “Amazing Race,” collecting points by completing activities, solving clues, and taking photos at notable locations on the downtown campus and in the surrounding community. The team that collects the most points by the end of the race wins a team dinner!
2:30pm: Your Facilitators will guide your team to New Residence Hall in time for the start of the Graduate Services Fair and Welcome Reception, where you can mingle, speak to McGill service providers, and enjoy some light refreshments!
