Welcome to our annual McGill School of Population and Global Health (SPGH) Research and Public Health Day 2024.
For the first time, we are combining Public Health Day and Research Day in a school-wide event to showcase for you SPGH students presenting their research or practicum experiences, along with inspiring keynote addresses.
The event takes place on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Montréal Neurological Institute (Jeanne Timmins Amphitheatre, Jeanne Timmins Foyer), 3801 Rue University, Montréal, QC, H3A 2B4, from 8:30am - 5:15pm.
All Research Day presentations will be as oral or as poster presentations.
All practicum students will display their projects in a poster gallery with ten selected to deliver 3-minute mini-oral presentations of their practicum, followed by a Q&A. Awards will be handed out for best mini-oral presentation and best meme.
Keynote Speakers include:
- Dr. Hailey Banack, Assistant Professor, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, Host of SERious EPI podcast, University of Toronto
- Dr. Nicole Redvers, Associate Professor, Director of Indigenous Planetary Health, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University
Dr. Lesley Fellows, Vice-Principal (Health Affairs) and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, will provide opening remarks.
Dr. Catherine Hankins, Department of Global and Public Health, will moderate the MSc PH mini-oral presentations, introduce Dr. Redvers, invite the judges to announce awards, and introduce Dr. Timothy Evans who will provide closing remarks.
Dr. Dupuis, Department Chair of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Occupational Health, will announce the winners of the prizes for Research Day poster and oral presentations.
Dr. Jonathan Campbell, Department of Global and Public Health, and Dr. Joseph Cox, Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Occupational Health, will announce the winners of the prizes for Public Health Day mini-oral presentations.
Geoff Ingram, MSc PH student, will announce the winners of the Public Health Day meme competition.

Keynote Talk:
About our Keynote Speakers:
Dr. Hailey Banack. Dr. Hailey Banack, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Epidemiology Division at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. Dr. Banack’s research is focused on obesity, body composition, aging, and chronic disease, with a particular interest in using quantitative bias analysis techniques to investigate and account for sources of bias in aging research. She has an active NIH-funded research program focused on age-related change in body composition among postmenopausal women. Hailey completed her PhD in Epidemiology at McGill University, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with the Women’s Health Initiative at the University at Buffalo. In addition, Hailey is co-host of a podcast called SERious Epidemiology and actively involved with the Society for Epidemiologic Research. When not working, Hailey spends time chasing after her three kids and trying to get outdoors.
Dr. Nicole Redvers, ND, MPH, DPhilc, is a member of the Deninu K’ue First Nation (Northwest Territories) and has worked with Indigenous patients, scholars, and communities around the globe her entire career. She is an Associate Professor, Western Research Chair, and Director of Indigenous Planetary Health at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University. She has been actively involved at regional, national, and international levels promoting the inclusion of Indigenous perspectives in both human and planetary health research and practice. Dr. Redvers is the author of the trade paperback book titled, ‘The Science of the Sacred: Bridging Global Indigenous Medicine Systems and Modern Scientific Principles’.
