Biography:

Dr. Paydarfar is Chief, Division of Otolaryngology, Audiology and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Associate Professor of Surgery - Otolaryngology at the Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine, and Adjunct Associate Professor of Engineering, Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth. After obtaining his MD at Duke University he completed his residency in Otolaryngology at Washington University in St. Louis and Head and Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Fellowship at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia. His clinical interests are in head and neck oncologic and reconstructive surgery, trans-oral laser microsurgery, and trans-oral robotic surgery. His research interests include minimally invasive approaches and surgical navigation in head and neck surgery.

Image guided surgical navigation for trans-oral cancer surgery: Challenges and Opportunities

  • Highlight the limitations of the inside-out approach in trans-oral surgery for head and neck cancer

  • Explore how image guided surgical navigation may improve the safety and efficacy of trans-oral surgery

  • Outline approach, steps taken, and current challenges to developing an image-guided trans-oral surgery system
