Design Of Mechanical Systems: Iterative Process

Modern design is a complex activity that combines creativity, scientific and engineering knowledge.

Engineering design includes the following main phases:

  1. Analysis of the problem, or task clarification.
  2. Conceptual design.
  3. Embodiment design.
  4. Detailed design.

At any of these phases, engineers may have a need to step back to a previous phase and revise previously obtained result or solution. This makes the entire design process iterative.
