For a successful and timely completion of a project you must monitor a large number of various activities, their progress, schedule and deadlines. If a deadline is missed or a sequence of tasks is violated, it may negatively affect the entire project, delay it or lead to unforeseen complications.

Normally a Gantt chart includes:
- The start and the end dates of the project;
- The dates of start and finish of different tasks;
- People to whom the tasks are assigned, etc.
