Dr. Nathan Smith, Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology and his colleagues at the Université de Montréal published a new study that shows health benefits of coming out of the closet for lesbian, gay, and bisexual individuals.

The study has been picked up worldwide through news outlets such as; CBC News Montreal, Toronto Sun, New York Daily News, London Free Press, and Bangkok Post!

Dr. Smith, co-author of Sexual Orientation and Disclosure in Relation to Psychiatric Symptoms, recently spoke about this in an Alpha Galileo Foundation article; “’Coming out of the closet is a major milestone in lives of LGBs that has not been studied extensively using interdisciplinary approaches that assess stress biomarkers’”.

Robert-Paul Juster, PhD candidate at the Université de Montréal and lead author of the study was interviewed by CTV News about the finding that “openly gay men or women are less stressed than those who remain ‘in the closet’”. To listen to the interview please visit CTV News.
