Teaching Schedule: MTWRF 08:35 am-09:25 am

Course Details: Asian Language & Literature : The same communicative approach as in EAST 230 is used to develop aural and oral skills on daily topics. In addition to textbooks, Chinese films on videotapes will be incorporated as teaching materials.
This is a 4.5 credit course. It is the Fall 2025 section of a 9 credit course. The position is only for the first half (Fall academic term) of the full year course.

Salary (current rate for 4.5-credit course teaching): $16,635
Salary (rate for 4.5-credit teaching as of September 1st, 2025): $17,218.50

Position Summary:

A Course Lecturer assignment includes all or part of the following teaching activities:

a) preparation of the Course and Course plan;
b) delivery of the Course;
c) evaluation of students;
d) submitting to the University a report on student attendance and student grades;
e) supervision of Teaching Assistants or any other teaching support staff;
f) upon request, review of their students’ grades;
g) meeting with students, being available to answer questions and give advice concerning Course content and requirements;

An Employee shall use appropriate pedagogical methods and material. Employees shall perform their duties in compliance with the Pedagogical Regulation and as specified in the administrative directives of the Hiring Unit.


Teaching Qualification Requirements/Education: M.A. in Linguistics, applied Linguistics, and/or foreign language education.

Experience: Teaching Chinese as an instructor at the college level, as well as interest in upper-level instruction in translation.

Other: Must be able to teach Chinese language at the introductory level and possess native or near-native fluency in Chinese with an excellent command of English. This course may be co-taught.

Course Details: Asian Language & Literature: Development of skills required to conduct academic discussions in oral as well as in written forms. Teaching materials include original texts from Chinese newspapers, Chinese literature and videos.

Salary (current rate for 3-credit course teaching): $11,090
Salary (rate for 3-credit course teaching as of September 1st, 2025): $11,479

This is a 3-credit course. It is the Fall 2025 section 001 of course EAST 530-D1. The position is only for the Fall 2025 academic term.

Position Summary:

Course details: Consideration of important issues in Japanese studies. The content of the course will vary from year to year.

Topic: Development of modern Japanese culture and society, with an emphasis on critical approaches to the study of culture.

Position Summary:

A Course assignment includes all or part of the following teaching activities:

a) preparation of the Course and Course plan;
b) delivery of the Course;
c) evaluation of students;
d) submitting to the University a report on student attendance and student grades;
e) supervision of Teaching Assistants or any other teaching support staff;
f) upon request, review of their students’ grades;
g) meeting with students, being available to answer questions and give advice concerning Course content and requirements;

Employees shall perform their duties in compliance with the Pedagogical Regulation and as specified in the administrative directives of the Hiring Unit. An Employee shall use appropriate pedagogical methods and material.

Teaching Qualification Requirements: All But Dissertation (ABD), or equivalent, in Asian Studies.

Experience: Applicants should have substantial experience teaching as an instructor at the university level.

Course Details: Development of Chinese film in the 20th century, with an emphasis on both critical approaches to film as well as film history.

a) preparation of the Course and Course plan;
b) delivery of the Course;
c) evaluation of students;

e) supervision of Teaching Assistants or any other teaching support staff;

g) meeting with students, being available to answer questions and give advice concerning Course content and requirements;

Teaching Qualification Requirements: All But Dissertation (ABD), or equivalent, in Asian Studies. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in Chinese Studies with training in the field of Film and Media Studies.

Curse Details:

This is a 9 credit course to be co-taught by two Course Lecturers.
Each course lecturer will teach 4.5 credits.
Please note that, this course is taught daily (Monday to Friday, for 2.5 months) at 4 hours per day.
