Information for Patients

The Jim Lund Clinic at the Welcome Mission Hall is a free dental service offered to low income and homeless Montrealers who don’t have any type of dental insurance (private or government subsidised). Created through a partnership between McGill University’s Faculty of Dentistry and Welcome Hall Mission, it is Montreal’s first permanent, free dental care clinic.

Due to financial constraints and lack of insurance, many of Montreal’s disadvantaged never see a dentists because it isn’t affordable on a tight budget. This fact sparked the idea of creating a free dental clinic, and the Jim Lund Dental Clinic was inaugurated on February 11, 2011 thanks to generous support from socially responsible foundations, organizations and individual donors to the Welcome Hall Mission and the Faculty of Dentistry.

The clinic is staffed by:

  • 2 dentists
  • 1 resident
  • 1 dental assistant
  • 2 dental hygienists from John Abbott College
  • 2 trainee students from 3rd and 4th year of McGill University’s Faculty of Dentistry

Treatments offered

  • Complete dental examination
  • Regular and deep cleaning (under local anaesthetic)
  • Simple fillings
  • Simple extractions
  • Referrals to the Montreal General Hospital in emergency cases

Becoming a patient

To become a patient at the Jim Lund Dental Clinic, you must meet one of the following requirements:

  1. Be recommended by another organization that works with the homeless and disadvantaged or
  2. Open a file with Welcome Hall Mission by calling the Food Bank at (514) 937-9317.

Medicare and patients receiving social assistance

People receiving social assistance or covered by medicare (RAMQ) are not eligible in our clinic. Most patients who receive social assistance can obtain basic dental care in a private dental office at no cost. If you already have coverage but cannot find a dentist, please go to the Quebec Order of Dentists website where you can search for a dentist in your area.

Cancellation Policy

It is the patient’s responsibility to keep scheduled appointments.  We request notice at least 2 working days in advance for Dental Clinic appointments.

The Dental Clinic will consider an appointment missed any time a patient has not given 2 working days advance notice of cancellation or has failed to arrive within 10 minutes of their appointment time.

Patients who have 2 missed appointments in a 1-year period will no longer benefit from the services offered by the Jim Lund Dental Clinic.
