The Special Care Dental Medicine General Practice Residency provides advanced education in general dentistry with an emphasis on providing dental care adapted to the needs of the elderly and individuals who are neurodiverse or have an intellectual disability.
This residency takes place through the Jewish General Hospital GPR program site. The Jewish General Hospital is part of CIUSSS West Central Montreal, an integrated healthcare network which includes long-term care facilities (CHSLD), community-based clinics, and rehabilitation centres.
One candidate will be selected for the 12-month program. Rotations will take place in dental clinics in long-term care facilities within the CIUSSS West-Central Montreal network, at the Oral Health Clinic for the Neurodiverse Community in the Montreal General Hospital, and in community based medical centres. In addition to the clinical experience, the program will provide a didactic component of seminars and literature review of various disciplines in dental medicine with a focus on the management of geriatric patients and individuals who are neurodiverse or have an intellectual disability.
Priority will be given to candidates who have completed a multidisciplinary dental residency program who wish to expand their knowledge and experience in general dentistry and have a particular interest in providing care to vulnerable patient populations. The successful candidate must be motivated for a significant amount of independent learning.
The application period for the 2026-2027 Special Care Dental Medicine General Practice Residency will open in September 2025.
