Primary Research Theme: Materials and Structures
Research Group/Lab: Structures and Composite Materials
The use of composite materials with fibrous reinforcements and polymeric matrices has been increasing significantly for years, reaching a global market size of 13.5 Mt in 2024 [1]. The application of composites has grown without a commensurate response in the development of sustainable manufacturing approaches. Consequently, most waste generated during manufacturing and scrap from end-of-life structures is buried or incinerated, while only 4% is recycled [1].
In response to these challenges, my research program focuses on the development of new processes, material systems, and design tools for sustainable polymer composite material systems. My approach relies on global collaborative research, advanced simulation tools, robust and innovative design, and testing methods. The benefit is to reduce costs and improve the environmental impact of composite materials manufacturing and design.
