The BoF podcasts will comprise new and archival conversations with a cast of designers, executives and other industry insiders whom Amed has spoken to since the blog’s inception in 2007. The six initial episodes are currently available for download, with new content to be featured weekly moving forward.

In the age of technology with growing emphasis on sustainable living, many in the fashion world, including Desautels Global Expert, Imran Amed (BCom'97), have questioned the continued prevalence of paper fashion show invitations.

It turns out that wastage permeates every facet of the fashion industry, from excessive fabric waste spurred by fast fashion, to unsustainable product packing.

In some ways, it’s the party of the year. On April 7th, Canada’s biggest fashion names gathered in Toronto for the fourth Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards. The event was heavy on pizzazz, from the pre-event cocktails to the after-dinner party. The guest list was a who’s who of Canada’s glitterati, from Erdem Moralioglu to David Dixon.

“I’m not looking at fashion through a Canadian lens, or even a Western lens, but a global lens,” says Imran Amed (BCom'97). Indeed, he doesn’t even look at it through the eyes of someone who grew up steeped in fashion. Mr. Amed started Business of Fashion as a personal blog while he was working as a management consultant with zero fashion training. Today, his London-based site is the go-to source for news-hungry glitterati.

Imran Amed is the founder and editor-in-chief of online fashion news hub The Business of Fashion (BoF), which has overtaken the venerable Womens Wear Daily as the industry’s main news source. But it wasn’t a hidden desire to be a designer that made him start blogging about fashion; he was always more interested in the business side of things. Or, as he says, “I was less drawn to what Michael Jackson wore than how his latest album was performing on the Billboard charts.”

The white, bright space on the top floor of a building just north of Oxford Circus resembles the sort of office you might imagine in a creative-visualisation technique: spacious rooms filled with stylish, purposeful-looking men and women sitting around pristine work surfaces. I hazard a guess that a "no eating at your desk" policy is observed but I don't get round to asking because Imran Amed (BCom'97) is in full flight.
