Located in the heart of the Montérégie region, in Mont-Saint-Hilaire, McGill University’s Gault Nature Reserve comprises more than 1,000 hectares of lush old-growth deciduous forest, just 40 km from Montreal. A refuge for migratory birds, Gault is at the heart of Canada’s first UNESCO-recognized biosphere reserve.

McGill will be hosting three solar eclipse events on April 8, one downtown, one at Macdonald campus, and another at the Gault Nature Reserve.

At approximately 3:20 p.m. on April 8, the sky above Montreal will go dark during a total eclipse of the sun. A rare celestial occurrence, the next total solar eclipse won’t happen in Montreal until the next century. “A total eclipse of the sun is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” says Carolina Cruz-Vinaccia, Outreach Program Administrator at McGill’s Trottier Space Institute (TSI). “You really don’t want to miss it.”

Gault Nature Reserve special edition

Calling all scientist-artists:

Does the FOREST inspire you? In honour of the 60th anniversary of the Gault Nature Reserve in Mont-Saint-Hilaire, a special edition of the Artists Among Us art exhibition will take place during the months of July and August 2018 at the Alice Johannsen Pavilion of the Reserve.

Artists Among Us is a McGill event in which students, faculty, staff, alumni and retirees display their artwork, reminding the campus community how many of our members have parallel creative pursuits.
