From Saturday, Oct. 5 through Monday, Oct. 7, the Downtown and Macdonald Campuses will be open only to McGill students, employees and essential visitors. Many classes will be held online. Remote work required where possible. See Campus Public Safety website for details.

We are pleased to announce that graduate student Mohammed-Nur Abdallah placed second in the CADR-NCOHR Student Research Award competition, Senior Basic Science Research Category, for his project "Artificially induced diagenesis in mineralized tissues: A new way to modify the properties of teeth," by MN Abdallah, H Eimar, D Bassett, M Schnabel, V Nelea, MD McKee, M Cerruti, JE Barralet and F Tamimi  (supervisor F. Tamimi). Mohammed will receive a travel award to present his research at the IADR/AADR/CADR meeting in Boston, MA, in March, 2015. Congratulations!

It gives us great pleasure to announce that, on May 11th, Sina Hashemi (DMD IV and former DSS President) was presented with the Lieutenant Governor’s Youth Medal by the Honorable Pierre Duchesne during an official ceremony in Montreal.  Sina was among 6 university students across Quebec who received the prestigious award.

Research on elderly rats suggests possible avenue for prevention of osteoporosis

Faleh Tamimi, is the leader of a research team that has just discovered that melatonin supplements make bones stronger in elderly rats and therefore, potentially, in elderly humans too. “Old rats are tedious to work with because they get sick a lot and that means they also cost a lot more. But if you’re interested in diseases like osteoporosis, they’re an essential part of the process.”

The Faculty of Dentistry announced Friday that many of its activities, including its undergraduate teaching clinic and clinical and community research unit, will be moving to a building located at the corner of McGill College Avenue and Sherbrooke Street. The Faculty of Dentistry will occupy three floors at 2001 McGill College Ave.
