Dr. David Drullinsky, MD, MSc, FRCSC

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Drullinsky was born in Santiago, Chile, and moved to Montreal after completing his medical degree at the Universidad de Chile in 2010. He conducted research at McGill University before starting his cardiac surgery residency in 2013, which he completed in 2019. He then pursued a two-year fellowship at Northwestern University Hospitals in Chicago under the mentorship of Dr. Patrick McCarthy, focusing on mechanical circulatory support, heart transplantation and complex valve surgery.

Following his fellowship, Dr. Drullinsky joined Western University in London, Ontario in 2021, where he specialized in advanced heart failure surgery, including mechanical support with ventricular assist devices (VADs), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and heart transplantation.

In 2024, Dr. Drullinsky returned to Montreal, joining the CHUM as a full-time cardiac surgeon while contributing to the heart transplant program at McGill. Now, as a member of the MUHC, Dr. Drullinsky will focus on heart transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, complex coronary surgeries, and atrial fibrillation.

In addition to his clinical roles, Dr. Drullinsky is committed to advancing surgical education. He is currently completing a Master’ s in Health Professions Education at Maastricht University, further enhancing his contributions to the academic development of our surgical programs.

Dr. Drullinsky is trilingual, fluent in Spanish, English, and French, enhancing his ability to serve our diverse patient population. He brings exceptional expertise in heart failure management, transplantation, and surgical education.
