Tanner received a Bachelor of Arts in Geographic Analysis from Toronto Metropolitan University in 2021, where he developed a passion for health geography and environmental health research. During his undergraduate studies, he gained research experience using geospatial data to model population-level exposures to air and noise pollution.
Building on his interests in environmental health research and quantitative methods, Tanner completed a Master of Science in Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University in 2023. His thesis examined the impact of prenatal air pollution exposure on developmental outcomes in early childhood and evaluated the effectiveness of air filters in mitigating these effects as part of a randomized controlled trial conducted in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Since completing his MSc, Tanner has worked at the Public Health Agency of Canada in the Infectious Disease and Vaccination Branch and, more recently, at Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario), where he contributed to provincial cancer screening analytics.
As a Research Assistant (2026-), Tanner contributes to the Division's research program in HPV infection and cancer epidemiology, with a particular focus on the HITCH and TRAP-HPV studies. He also collaborates with and supports other Division team members in their work in cancer epidemiology and knowledge translation activities.
