Biology Department Entrance Award

The Biology Entrance Award is given to graduate students pursuing research in the Biology Department. The award will be in the amount of $2,500, based on available funds.

Biology Excellence Doctoral and Masters Awards

The goal of the McGill Biology Doctoral and Masters Awards is to recruit highly competitive new doctoral and masters students that have not received major federal, provincial, or international fellowships (including or comparable to Tri-council Ph.D. scholarships).

Selection for this award is based on the excellence of a student’s academic and research record, including publications, presentations, and his/her potential to make a major impact in the field of Biology. This is a 1-year award of $10,000, non-renewable.

The intent of this award is to provide contributing funds towards stipend/tuition costs which may reduce the supervisor contribution to the stipend and/or the need to TA.

Call for nominations are sent to supervisors before fall and winter admission deadlines, based on funds availability.

Graduate Research Enhancement and Travel (GREAT) Awards

*Please note that GREAT Awards are closed for the Summer 2022 term.

GREAT awards are given to students who will travel to present their research at a scientific conference.

The maximum amount of the award is $750. Priority will be given to students who have not yet received an award.

Interested applicants should complete the GREAT Award Application and return it to Drenusha Myha as a scanned e-mail attachment to drenusha.myha [at] mcgill.ca.

Applications must be submitted at least 1 month prior to the conference or seminar.

Mobility Awards

The Graduate Mobility Award is offered by Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies to encourage graduate students to study and conduct research abroad as part of their McGill degree program by defraying part of the cost of the international experience.

Writing-Year Award

The Writing-Year Award is intended for Ph.D. candidates in the final year of their program who wish to focus on writing their dissertations.

Interested applicants should complete the Writing-Year Award Application and return it to Ancil Gittens as a scanned e-mail attachment to ancil.gittens [at] mcgill.ca.
