MAY 20, 2019 |The University of Lethbridge recently recognized the work of Dr. Cindy Blackstock, a professor of social work at McGill University, by presenting her with an honorary degree at the University’s 2019 Spring Convocation ceremonies. Blackstock has spent her career speaking out against the systemic inequalities of services provided to First Nations children, youth and their families and, in the process, become a powerful advocate for Indigenous children in Canada.

Krzysztof Pelc wins the 2019 CBC Short Story Prize | CBC
APR 24, 2019 | Krzysztof Pelc has won the 2019 CBC Short Story Prize for his story Green Velvet. As the grand prize winner, Pelc will receive $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and a two-week writing residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Green Velvet was selected by the jury comprised of writers Esi Edugyan, Iain Reid and Lisa Moore.

Department of Linguistics cracks top 20 of QS World University Rankings by Subject
The QS World University Ranking has five subjects at McGill ranked in the top 20 worldwide, including Linguistics which made a big jump from 38 to 17 and cracked the top 20.
Nominations sought for a position on McGill's Senate
Nominations are now called from the full-time administrative and support staff of the University, from within Group 1, for One representative on Senate for a three-year term commencing September 1, 2019.

H. Noel Fieldhouse Award for Distinguished Teaching
The H. Noel Fieldhouse Award for Distinguished Teaching is designed to recognize outstanding teaching in the Faculty of Arts, and is awarded each June at Convocation. All full-time academic staff in the Faculty of Arts are eligible for this award. Any student, alumnus, or member of the academic staff may submit a nomination.

Professor Tabitha Sparks appointed Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies
Tabitha Sparks, Associate Professor in the Department of English and Associate Scholar in the Social Studies of Medicine, was recently appointed Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Arts. In this role, Professor Sparks will oversee and manage all matters related to research, prizes and awards, and graduate and post-doctoral studies in the Faculty.
