Approval process:
Academic programs and courses
The creation, revision, and retirement of academic programs and credit courses are subject to evaluation and approval, both at the University and (in some cases) externally. The process differs depending on the type and scope of proposal.
Academic units
Proposals for creation, revision (renaming, change of status, etc.) and retirement of academic units require careful planning and are subject to evaluation and approval both at the Faculty level and by central McGill committees.
Initial consultation:
It is important to conduct the necessary consultations prior to submitting any proposal, to ensure that the chosen nomenclature is appropriate and that the proposal meets the regulations and standards of the University.

Academic reviews
The academic review process is designed to ensure the quality and continuous improvement of McGill’s academic programs and units. It is designed to be flexible, accountable, and responsive to the needs of the McGill community.
Reviews are carried out in accordance with policies of the Bureau de Coopération Interuniversitaire (BCI) and international best practices. The process is overseen by Teaching and Academic Programs (TAP) and governed by McGill’s Regulations on Academic Reviews.
