Getting Started to Go Away
The purpose of the Mobility Award is to encourage students to study abroad as part of their McGill degree program by defraying part of the cost of this experience. Complete information on this award is available on McGill's International Education website.
NEW! Starting Summer 2013, Fall 2013 our office will administer the SSAO Mobility Financial Aid Supplement!
Here are 3 important questions to ask if you are a McGill student going on Exchange or Study Away:
- Are you getting the Basic Mobility Award? Most exchange students automatically do!
- Do you qualify for the Mobility Financial Aid Supplement?
- Are you receiving government loans?
- Before going away, students on government aid should contact the Scholarships and Student Aid Office regarding their student loan documents.
- You must be paying tuition fees to McGill University in order to be considered a McGill student for government loan purposes.
- If you are attending another institution and paying fees to that institution on a study abroad, you should apply for government aid through your host institution instead of through McGill.
SSAO Mobility Financial Aid Supplement
Eligibility & Values
The SSAO Mobility Financial Aid Supplement is primarily for students who:
- have applied and are receiving the maximum government aid for which they are eligible
- demonstrate financial need according to SSAO conditions
- are approved for an eligible study abroad activity

How to apply?
Visit the Financial Aid Menu on Minerva and submit an online In-Course Mobility Financial Aid application. No need to make an appointment for an interview with a Student Aid Counselor. Your application will be assessed online, so it’s very important to clearly and accurately include all relevant information.
When to apply?
Be prepared to submit your application within the open/close dates indicated below. Late applications will not be accepted (no exceptions!
