Pushing the Frontiers of Research in Communication Sciences and Disorders
The School fosters a thriving research environment and all full-time faculty members are working at the leading edge of their respective research fields. Our research programs encompass the latest paradigms to study human communication and its disorders across the lifespan, and are focused on many different languages (English, French, Arabic, Icelandic, Mandarin Chinese, just to name a few). This covers fundamental research on speech and language production and perception, to investigations of the effectiveness of clinical intervention.
SCSD faculty members have been highly successful in obtaining external operating funds from the three major Canadian research councils (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC), Québec funding agencies, and from private foundations. The School is proud that three of its current faculty members hold Research Chair awards and most members of the School have strong links to the Centre for Research on Brain, Language, and Music, with SCSD faculty member Dr. Vincent Gracco as its current Director.
Our research is highly inter-discplinary; in Montreal, our faculty have ongoing collaborations with colleagues in other McGill departments (Psychology, Linguistics, Education and Neurology and Neurosurgery departments), as well as with colleagues at l'Université de Montréal, UQAM, and Concordia University, and at Montreal Children's Hospital and the Jewish General Hospital. We also have collaborations across Canada and internationally, from MPI for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Germany, to the CNRS in Paris, to RykajavikurAkademian in Iceland.
This section describes the expertise and major accomplishments of faculty members in the School and provides an overview of our research facilities and ongoing projects.
