Welcome to the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at McGill University. Established in 1963 as the School of Human Communication Disorders, the School was the first program in Canada to train both researchers and professionals in the field of communication science and disorders.
The School's objectives include training highly qualified professionals in Speech-Language Pathology and fostering the development of leading researchers in the field of human communication and disorders. These objectives are achieved through our research-based curriculum and clinical training program, and through solid research mentoring that encourages independence and innovation.
Our teaching philosophy holds that research and clinical work go hand-in-hand and are always in a state of dynamic flux for individuals working at the forefront of knowledge about human communication and its disorders. The School's Master of Science (Applied) degree program in Speech-Language Pathology integrates research, theory and clinical practice to give students a problem-solving orientation to the diagnosis and treatment of communication disorders. Our doctoral program follows a mentor model and students work closely with researchers who have international reputations in their respective fields. We are fortunate to count among our faculty outstanding investigators in several specialties, including but not limited to child development, cognitive (neuro)science, neuro-motor control of speech, voice disorders, and speech science.
The School has clinical training facilities available at the McGill University Health Centre and clinical affiliations with public and private clinics and schools throughout the Montreal area. We are fortunate to be situated in the very heart of Montreal, which is a fascinating, multilingual, and multicultural city--one where language and communication are never taken for granted.
This web site provides a sampling of the School's many exciting and diverse research and educational activities. We hope you enjoy your visit.
