McGill Bio-Business Incubator Facility

Published: 8 September 2003

The McGill Bio-Business Incubator Facility offers five state-of-the-art laboratory modules, located on two floors in the 740 Dr Penfield building. Each laboratory module provides an efficient and secure research environment for biotechnology start-up companies. This facility will be a key component of the Montreal biotechnology sector, one of the most active technology sectors in Canada.

The Bio-Business Incubator modules range in size from 3200 to 5200 square feet. The incubator users will have access to a number of essential scientific resources located at 740 Dr Penfield, including the McGill University and Génome Québec Innovation Centre, the hub of genomics and proteomics research in Quebec.

The anticipated stay for most biotechnology start-up companies at the McGill Bio-Business Incubator Facility is three years. This means that over a 10-year period, approximately 15 new biotechnology companies will use this facility and more than 150 new jobs will be created in the Montreal biotechnology sector. Over 50 patents or licenses leading to new opportunities for biotechnology commercialization are expected to be generated by the users of the McGill Bio-Business Incubator Facility.

The McGill Bio-Business Incubator Facility has been generously sponsored by the Canada Economic Development agency for Québec Regions.
