Art in movement

Published: 22 November 2001

The McGill Centre for Studies in Aging’s Movement Disorders Clinic, on the grounds of the Douglas Hospital, is organizing an art exhibition including paintings, song lyrics, a book, and photographs, whose authors, apart from their obvious talent, share the same predicament. Whether they are film- maker Gilles Carle (La vie heureuse de Léopold Z, Les mâles, La vraie nature de Bernadette Brown, Le crime d’Ovide Plouffe etc.), song writer Robert Thibodeau, or writer Claude Messier, they all suffer from Parkinson’s disease or other varieties of movement disorders.

"The goal of the Art in Movement exhibition is to emphasize the fact that thanks to appropriate treatment and exercises, these people can go on with their activities in spite of their disorder," says Dr Michel Panisset, Director of the Movement Disorders’ Clinic and one of the event’s main organizers.

Media representatives are invited to attend the "Art in Mouvement" opening at 5 pm, Tuesday December 4, McGill Centre for Studies in Aging, Douglas Hospital, 6825, LaSalle Boulevard, Verdun. Members of the public are cordially invited to visit the exhibition and buy artworks between 6 and 8 pm, Tuesday, December 4 to Friday, December 7, 2001.
