Call for candidates: 2020-2021 Wainwright Fellowships

Wainwright Fellowships are intended to to promote research in civil law at the Faculty of Law of McGill University. In addition to the classical civil law concepts such as contractual or extra-contractual obligations, the civil law is understood here in a broad sense and includes, in particular, commercial law, the labour law, maritime law, private judicial law, private international law and the law of the sea, comparative law, so long as the civil law is a substantial element of it.

Daniel Jutras appointed to the Order of Canada

Professor Jutras was honoured “for his contributions to the development of pluralist law internationally and for his contributions as a lawyer, professor, and university administrator.”

Brian Havel receives honorary doctorate from National University of Ireland

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Brian F. Havel has received a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, from National University of Ireland, University College Dublin.

Professor Havel joined McGill University’s Faculty of Law of McGill University in 2017 as a full professor and director of the Institute of Air and Space Law (IASL). His research focuses on issues of public and private governance in the air transport and space industries.

McGill adopts JD designation for common law degree

Quebec’s Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur has approved McGill’s request to change the name of the common law degree conferred on graduates of the Faculty of Law’s double-degree McGill program from a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) to a Juris Doctor (JD). The BCL/LLB program will thus become the BCL/JD program.

Attire rental pilot project promotes inclusivity and eco-responsibility in legal recruitment

McGill Law’s Career Development Office (CDO) is pleased to announce a collaboration with Loue 1 Robe / Loue 1 Tux. Through this partnership, we are launching an innovative pilot project that will allow students to rent professional attire for interviews and networking activities at an affordable price. Lara Khoury receives Advocatus Emeritus distinction
