Employers love business school graduates. That's not just a wild claim: 96% of employers globally polled by the Graduate Management Admission Council in January 2016 said that hiring such graduates creates value for their companies.

But that most-sought-after of business qualifications, the Master of Business Administration (MBA), is not above criticism. It has been accused by some of not meeting the needs of a changing market.

In this tough economic and political climate it's important to question whether business schools should be doing something differently.

Sharie Hunter says growing up on a Saskatchewan farm south of Cypress Hills nurtured a positive attitude that, with hard work and the pioneering spirit of family members, has greatly influenced her approach to business.

Farm life was also fun, but Hunter needed an outlet for her creative spirit. She left for Medicine Hat to study visual communications before another move brought her to Calgary where she was hired by Loblaws. It was there that Hunter received great practical experience designing food packaging, in-store promotions and directing photo-shoots.

In the TV series 24, the ever-resourceful (and perpetually sleep-deprived) Jack Bauer experienced a truly terrible day once every year, a day during which he would be confronted with a deadly series of threats against the country he was sworn to protect.

On March 16, during #McGill24, the plan is for McGill graduates and supporters around the world to take action in far less harrowing circumstances.

McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management ranked second in the latest list, which was released in October 2015, while the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business was fifth. Those Canadian universities all outranked some big name American schools, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University.

The rankings consider the number of core courses that focus on sustainability, the quality of each school’s faculty and the depth of their business sustainability research.
