Prof. Szkopek's research interests are in the application of low-dimensional materials and devices to the grand challenges of electronics in the 21st century. Improving the energy efficiency of electronics is amongst these challenges. One route to overcoming the energy efficiency obstacle is the development of transistors with inherently low operating voltage, exploiting new physical phenomena such as quantum mechanical tunnelling and spin orbit coupling.
