Professor Malomo's areas of expertise are structural and earthquake engineering. The main focus of his research is on computational modeling of masonry, heritage and reinforced concrete systems, collapse analysis of large-scale structures and infrastructures, development of hybrid DEM/FEM numerical techniques. Since 2021, he serves in the Board of Directors of the Canadian chapter of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS). His work has been recently awarded by The Masonry Society (TMS), Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER) and the International Association of Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE).

Areas of interest:
  • Structural and earthquake engineering
  • Numerical modeling
  • Collapse analysis
  • Existing and historic structures

  • Masonry mechanics, modeling and testing

  • Built heritage structural assessment in Eastern Canada

  • Collapse simulation of large-scale structures and debris quantification

  • Seismic risk assessment of masonry and reinforced concrete systems
