SBNH Partnership: Winter 2022 Research Update

This winter, we are wrapping up the first cohort of the SBNH Leadership Program, and preparing to launch the second. We share details and updates as we celebrate this huge accomplishment and look forward to the next phase!

This winter saw the continued delivery of the first cohort of the Strengths-Based Nursing and Healthcare Leadership program, with the successful completion of the course modules in December. This cohort will culminate in a final celebration on March 25th, and has been a tremendous success, as evidenced by the participants' enthusiastic engagement as well as the results of the evaluation reports. Congratulations to the faculty, mentors, and participants!

Please find our Executive Committee update below, with short committee updates following.

We are pleased to report on our recent collective accomplishments. Together we:

  • Provided ongoing mentorship to SBNH-L participants
  • Held monthly community of practice sessions for SBNH-L mentors
  • Launched the qualitative interviews for cohort 1 participants and stakeholders
  • Began recruiting cohort 2 participants
  • Re-engaged our committed group of returning faculty and mentors
  • Confirmed the second annual SBNH Global Check-up with our partners at the Canadian Nurses’ Association

Training Committee Update

With the first cohort of the SBNH-L Program nearing completion, the Training Committee is preparing for the final celebration and showcase of participants’ Capstone Change Projects, which will be held at the end of March. Work is now underway to prepare for the second cohort, which will launch mid-May. This includes building the cohort’s online space and meeting with faculty to support any revisions to their modules’ content or delivery. Recruitment is underway for several new mentors to join the existing team from cohort 1. Participant recruitment at our partner sites has launched.

Our heartfelt thanks to the cohort 1 mentors for their dedication and caring support of the participants’ learning and leadership journeys through a challenging fall and winter. We would also like to acknowledge the tremendous commitment of our faculty, all of whom are returning for cohort 2.

Evaluation Committee Update

The Evaluation Committee has been busy this winter, increasing evaluation activities for cohort 1 and planning for the evaluation for cohort 2. Recruitment has launched for individual interviews to be held with cohort 1 participants and stakeholders (faculty, mentors, and directors of nursing). Interviews, transcriptions, and data analysis will be ongoing over the coming months.

Knowledge Mobilization Committee Update

The KM Committee has begun comprehensive planning of KM priorities and activities for the last two years of the grant, during which much of the focus will be on sharing the results of the SBNH-L Program and broadening knowledge and uptake of SBNH and SBNH-L across Canada.

Following the great success of last year’s event, the committee is working with the Canadian Nurses’ Association to plan the second SBNH Global Check-Up, which will be held virtually on July 13th. Co-Investigator Pam Hubley will be the keynote speaker, presenting on the topic of nursing leadership in a time of global crisis.
