Skills Matrix

Unsure what skills you need to develop?

Create a skills matrix to pin-point the areas that you may need to improve.

Example of a skills matrix plotted with 22 categories

How to create a skills matrix:

  • Fill in the matrix by plotting the 22 IDF categories according to your ability and interest for each one.
  • You can add in your own categories or replace the ones we've created with more exact labels.
  • Think about: strengths that others have praised you for, experiences/activities/hobbies you enjoy(ed), skills you have been motivated to teach yourself, skills you admire and would like to acquire.
  • Once you have placed all the categories according to your interest and ability, circle or highlight the top 5 items that are very important for your success and/or well-being.
  • For each of the quadrants, think about how your importance ratings factor in as you consider which categories you want to focus on for your annual priorities and goals.
