Protection Services, a unit under McGill Security, takes every measure to ensure the safety and security of our residence community through controlled entry points, dedicated protection staff and campus partnerships.

Emergency requiring ambulance, fire or police:

• Call 911 (Montreal emergency services)
• Then, call McGill Security Services at 514-398-3000 who will coordinate with emergency responders.

For residence related matters:

Room lockouts ($), report a theft, suspicious person, noise complaint, or emergency maintenance issues such as water leaks, elevator malfunction, power outage and strange odours etc:

Lost and Found

If you have lost an item, complete the Loss Form.

If you have found an item, turn it into the front desks of the following locations:

• BMH
• NRH
• La Citadelle
• Carrefour Sherbrooke

Residence Access Safety:

• Do not lend your keys or access cards to anyone. Report any lost keys/ID cards, to your front desk during the day or call 514-398-3000 after front desk office hours.
• Do not allow anyone to tailgate into your residence; do not buzz anyone you don’t know into the building.
• If you see anyone who does not belong in the building, notice anything out of the ordinary or see any vandalism, call McGill Security at 514-398-3000.
• Only use emergency exits in emergencies; otherwise, someone could enter from outside undetected.
• Food delivery drivers are not permitted to go up to your room. Meet them in the lobby.
• Do not prop open emergency doors and residence hall doors that are supposed to be closed.
• Do not jump over the turnstiles.

Personal Safety Tips

Safety is everyone’s responsibility and there are things you can do to create a safer environment for everyone.

• Always lock your door. Whether you are sleeping or just leaving your room for a short period of time, but especially when you are not there. Residences are safe, but it takes only a moment for a thief to grab a laptop.
• Never leave your belongings unattended in the dining halls, library, lobbies, common rooms etc.
• Close you windows at night and draw your blinds.
• Do not go up onto the roof. This is taken very seriously as we don’t want anyone to get hurt. If you are caught on the roof, you will be subject to a fine and discipline under the McGill Student Code of Conduct.

Naloxone Kits Installed in Residences

Narcan (naloxone) kits are available in residence buildings. Narcan is a nasal spray that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose in minutes. It’s safe, easy to use, and can save a life while waiting for emergency responders. Placing Narcan in residences equips the community with the tools needed to respond quickly.

Please note that these kits are for emergency use only.

Narcan kits have been installed in the following residences:

• La Citadelle
• New Residence Hall
• Royal Victoria College
• Douglas Hall
• Gardner Hall
• Molson Hall
• McConnell Hall
• Bishop Mountain Hall
• Solin Hall

All residence students are required to complete a short online training to learn how to recognize an overdose and use Narcan effectively.
