About SSCOW: Advancing Gender Equity and Inclusion at McGill

The Senate Subcommittee on Women (SSCOW) works to advance equity and inclusion for women and gender-diverse individuals within the McGill community. We advocate for gender equality, lead initiatives to improve the status and treatment of women and gender minorities, and foster connections with other equity-seeking groups.

SSCOW is one of six subcommittees that report directly to the Joint Board-Senate Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee (EDIC), alongside the Subcommittee on Queer People, the Subcommittee on Persons with Disabilities, the Subcommittee on Family Care, the Subcommittee on First Peoples, and the Subcommittee on Racialized and Ethnic Persons.

As an advisory body, SSCOW provides recommendations to the University Senate on policies, practices, and initiatives that promote gender equity at McGill. We also work in collaboration with other subcommittees and university stakeholders to uphold McGill’s equity, diversity, and inclusion commitments.

For more information, see SSCOW's mandate.

March 8th, 2025, is International Women’s Day—a time to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women while recognizing the urgent need to accelerate gender equity through collective action.

Amidst today's complex and often polarized political landscape, we invite you to reflect on the progress made in advancing women’s rights, while also answering the call to push forward toward a future free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.

At McGill, the Senate Subcommittee on Women remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing gender equality and fostering inclusion for women and gender-diverse individuals. Through advocacy, collaborative initiatives, and the monitoring of policies and reports, we strive to improve the status and treatment of women while building connections with other equity-seeking groups to foster equity, diversity, and inclusion for all.

If you would like to join us in our efforts to foster gender equity on campus and beyond, we encourage you to fill out our registration form.
