Published: 17 September 2020

Dr. Romina Mizrahi has been appointed as the new Associate Chair of Research for the Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Mizrahi will be responsible for the Department’s research mission and oversee strategic research planning. She will also assist the Chair in the coordination of research activities, recruitment of researchers, and review the research-track residency program.

Dr. Mizrahi joined the Department on September 1, 2020 as Professor, attending psychiatrist and researcher at the Douglas Institute. She was previously a Professor at University of Toronto and attending psychiatrist at CAMH. She has an outstanding track record studying the pathophysiology of the early course of schizophrenia, with the aim of identifying relevant biomarkers and possible interventions (psychosocial/ pharmacological) to prevent the disease in those at clinical high risk (CHR). Her specific approaches include the use of phenomenology and positron emission tomography (PET), and in this new phase of her research her interests lie in developing a program on the intersect between addictions including cannabis and psychosis in youth. Dr. Mizrahi’s success as a researcher is evidenced, among other things, by over 125 publications in leading psychiatric journals, and by funding from NIH and CIHR. She has many recognitions for her scientific achievements.
