Dr. Julio F Fiore Jr., BSc (PT), MSc, PhD
Dr. Julio F Fiore Jr is an Outcome Scientist and Associate Professor at McGill University's Department of Surgery. His highly productive and internationally recognized research program is dedicated to improving the outcomes of surgical patients. His academic career builds on over 15 years of research training in prestigious institutions in Brazil (Federal University of Sao Paulo), Australia (Melbourne University) and Canada (McGill University). Dr. Fiore has published extensively in the fields of surgery, perioperative care, and outcome measurement. He has delivered presentations to audiences worldwide, received multiple awards, participated in the development of perioperative care guidelines, and accrued significant grant funding to pursue his research program. Among his leadership positions, he currently directs McGill’s Surgical Scientist Program and the Master’s Program in Surgical Outcomes Research.

Mak Pook graduated from McMaster University in 2019 with an Honours Health Sciences (BHSc) degree. Currently, Mak is a doctoral student in Surgical & Interventional Sciences at McGill University, supervised by Dr. Julio Fiore. Their research interests include postoperative pain and opioid prescribing, with a focus on clinical trials and qualitative research methods. In particular, Mak is interested in the sociocultural factors that influence perceptions of postoperative pain, both clinician and patient pain perceptions and how this impacts opioid prescribing and consumption.

Ghadeer Olleik completed her BSc in Pharmacy and a Master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacy and Epidemiology in Lebanon. Given her interest in surgical research, she completed her MSc and is currently pursuing a PhD degree in Surgical & Interventional Sciences at McGill University.
