About Us
Surgery is an essential component of healthcare, but it also involves some degree of risk. The demand for surgical services continues to increase as the global population ages and has more complex medical needs. For this reason, developing effective and sustainable strategies to measure and improve postoperative outcomes is crucial for patients, healthcare providers, payers, and policymakers.
The overarching goal of our research, directed by Dr. Julio Fiore Jr., is the generation of knowledge to support evidence-based perioperative care and improve postoperative outcomes in Canada and worldwide. Our work capitalizes on established and emerging principles of outcomes research to:
1) Create innovative, patient-centered strategies to measure postoperative outcomes,
2) Assess the comparative-effectiveness of contemporary interventions to enhance recovery, and
3) Develop approaches to reduce harms associated with perioperative care interventions.
