Welcome to the Perioperative Care and
Outcomes Research (PCOR) Lab!

Surgery is a cornerstone of healthcare, playing a critical role in improving patient outcomes despite its inherent risks. As the global population ages and medical needs grow increasingly complex, the demand for surgical services continues to rise. In response, we are deeply committed to advancing innovative and sustainable strategies to measure and enhance postoperative outcomes. These efforts aim to benefit all stakeholders, including patients, healthcare providers, payers, and policymakers, by fostering better recovery experiences and improving overall healthcare quality.

Under the leadership of Dr. Julio F. Fiore, Jr., PhD, our research aims to advance evidence-based perioperative care and improve recovery outcomes both in Canada and around the world.

Guided by cutting-edge principles of outcomes research, we focus on:

Designing patient-centered methods to measure postoperative outcomes in meaningful ways.
Evaluating the effectiveness of modern interventions that promote faster, safer recoveries.
Creating strategies to minimize risks and harms associated with perioperative care.

Our work is fueled by generous funding from our valued supporters, whose contributions we deeply appreciate. Together, we’re shaping a future where surgical care is safer, more effective, and truly centered on the needs of every patient.
