Melzack Lecture Series - Anda Dragomir PhD "Effectively engaging patients towards behaviour change: an Introduction to Motivational Communication"
Motivational Communication is a time-efficient, patient-centred communication style used to promote patient engagement and sustained health behaviour change. This one-hour introductory presentation will present the 11 core competencies of Motivational Communication. Case examples will be used to highlight how this communication style can lead to more effective consultations, improved therapeutic alliances and reduced frustration for both patient and healthcare provider.
This seminar will be facilitated by Dr. Anda Dragomir (PhD), a clinical psychologist and postdoctoral researcher at Concordia University. She has extensive knowledge of behavioural intervention methodology and has been involved in the design and development of effective behaviour change interventions. Her area of expertise is training healthcare professionals in communication skills for improved patient self-management.
Ms. Brigitte Voisard (presence to be confirmed), is a PhD candidate in clinical psychology at the Université du Québec à Montréal. She is co-leading the development and testing of the Motivational Communication training curriculum.
