Lawnmowing

Looking back in History, we see evidence of people having ‘lawns’ as early as the 16th century. Originally, however, the word lawn simply referred to an open area within the woods, not a patch of grass in front of a house, so the emergence of lawns as we know them is a touch harder to pinpoint. We do know though that lawnmowers were invented in 1830 and patented in 1879 and that before that lawns were cut using scythes or by letting your livestock loose on them for a while. It wasn't until 1902 that the first gas mower was invented, and not until after WWII that lawn mowing became a common practice. It seems baby boomers are to blame for popularizing the least favourite chore of teens everywhere. If you’re interested in more lawn mowing history, you can read about it here!
