Scientific Planning Committee
1. MOC Section 1 Accreditation: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
It is mandatory that at least one member of the SPC is affiliated with the RCPSC and at least one member must be affiliated with the FMHS, McGill University. Representatives of a commercial interest may attend SPC meetings, but are not permitted to participate in decisions related to CPD activity elements.
2. Mainpro+ Certification: College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
For a provincial face-to-face/live one-credit-per-hour activity, it is mandatory that a member of the SPC be affiliated with McGill University’s FMHS. In addition, a member of the committee must reside in Quebec and be an active member of the CFPC.
For a national online self-study one-credit-per-hour activity, it is mandatory that a minimum of three (3) active CFPC members from any region of Canada (one must be a resident of Quebec) are members of the SPC. In addition, a member of the committee must also be affiliated with McGill University’s FMHS. Representatives of a commercial interest, or any organization hired by a commercial interest, cannot attend SPC meetings.
In accordance with the National Standard for Support of Accredited CPD Activities, being a member of the SPC implies having had significant involvement in the development, planning and implementation of the activity. Members of the SPC represent the PO and are accountable for all elements linked to this CPD activity, including how the content will be presented. As such, the SPC will be required to respond to any concerns regarding CPD standard violations.
The SPC may be made up of:
- Member(s) of the target audience (mandatory)
- Other health care professional who can contribute to the development of the content
- Administrative staff of the physician organization
- Medical writer or other consultant: appointed by the physician organization - signed agreement
The OPC may be made up of:
- Mandatory to appoint OPC members for activities applying for CFPC Mainpro+ credits and held in Quebec
- Administrative staff of the physician organization
- Member(s) of the scientific planning committee
- Medical educational company or other consultant: appointed by the physician organization - signed agreement
