Get financial support for extracurricular experiential learning opportunities that will enable you to acquire knowledge and skills that enhance and complement your traditional classroom experience! The Student Experience Enhancement Fund (SEEF) is open to all students in McGill's Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
Activities that are eligible for SEEF include, but are not limited to:
- Presenting at a conference
- Competitions
- Independent research (cannot be associated with a graduate program)
- Volunteer placements
- Community outreach or science education projects
- Field work
Award values
- Up to $2,000 for an individual student
- Up to $5,000 for a group
- Up to $6,000 from the Douglas and Doreen Jose Experience Enhancement Award, an endowed award within the SEEF offered to an exceptional project that focuses on experience rather than materials
Eligibility
All applicants must be registered as full-time students in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences during the term(s) in which the funds are to be used. The SEEF is open to undergraduate, graduate, and Farm Management and Technology students.
University-recognized groups or clubs may also apply if all members meet this requirement.
Costs associated with advertisement, food, promotional products, lab equipment, and remunerations do not qualify for funding.
Application
Applications open in September.
The application is submitted through an online form. Applicants are asked to describe the activity they would like to fund, including the knowledge and skills that they will acquire through the experience, and justify why their activity should be considered for funding. They must clearly describe how the proposed activity is complimentary to their learning experience and provide a detailed budget justifying all costs for which they are requesting funding (e.g. admission fees, travel, lodging, field gear).
Review process
Applications are evaluated by a committee of representatives from the Office for Experiential Learning and Community Outreach and University Advancement after the submission deadline. The recommendations of the committee will be subject to review and approval by the Dean (Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences).
Activities pending approval
If you are currently waiting for approval to participate in an event (e.g. academic conference, competition) and you are interested in applying for funding, please submit your application by the established deadline.
If your project is approved for funding, the funds will be issued once we receive proof that your been accepted to participate in the event.

Successful applicants must:
- Recognize the support of the SEEF in all public or promotional material related to the funded initiative (e.g. presentation slides, poster, sign, web content)
