“The Macdonald Campus Farm plays an integral role in facilitating agricultural and environmental research.”
Associate Professor Sébastien Faucher, Associate Dean (Research)
Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences
The innovative research taking place at the Macdonald Campus Farm is at the heart of its value to the public, industry, and our students. Our on-campus field, farm, and engineering research facilities — including the R. Howard Webster Centre, the Emile A. Lods Agronomy Research Centre, and the Horticulture Research Centre — make McGill's Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences unique among North American agricultural faculties.
These exceptional agricultural production facilities give researchers and students direct access for experimentation, allowing our research community to work in the same environment as producers — and to help inform the next phase of food production.

Research Highlights
Across dairy, field and crop, large animal, and poultry research, the Macdonald Campus Farm supports projects connecting Quebec and Canadian agriculture to global research networks — from precision agriculture and climate adaptation to animal welfare and food safety.
In dairy research, the WELL-E initiative is using AI and IoT to improve dairy cow welfare on farms across Canada. In field and crop research, platforms like IPAM and ECP3 are developing climate-resilient crop models and plant phenotyping tools adapted to Eastern Canada. The Integrated Facility for Research on Large Animals, led by Professors Vilceu Bordignon and Luis Agellon, supports agricultural and biomedical research. And the Donald McQueen Shaver Poultry Complex is being modernized to advance research in poultry nutrition, gut health, and the microbiome.
