Prepare for an official certification

Getting ready for a standardized test? Assess your language structure, reading, and oral comprehension skills and take a 90-minute practice test under real Test de connaissance du français (TCF) conditions. 

Placement tests

You need to complete a placement test before you can register for a course. These tests are only for current students intending to enrol.

For French daytime courses at McGill

This test is for:

  • Anyone registering for a French as a Second Language course at the French Language Centre for the first time
  • Students who previously took a course at the French Language Centre but then studied French elsewhere (outside McGill or in another department)
  • Exchange students or those with a special status from another institution

Standardized tests

Standardized French tests are widely recognized in Canada and abroad. They provide official proof of your French proficiency, which can be required for immigration, university admissions, or professional opportunities beyond McGill.
